AI in Odoo 20

Odoo AI goes beyond automation. It eliminates repetitive tasks, giving your team more time to focus on strategic work that drives growth and delivers greater business value. department:

Website Builder: Managing a website becomes more intuitive with AI. Users can generate content, edit pages, and make updates using natural language, reducing the time spent on manual editing.

Accounting teams stop chasing invoices and matching transactions by hand. OCR captures vendor bills at 98% accuracy, reconciliation runs automatically, and approval routes themselves.

HR teams stop screening CVs one by one. AI reads resumes, scores candidates, and surfaces the best fits — before a human even opens the file.

Support teams stop starting from scratch on every ticket. AI reads the issue, finds similar past cases, and suggests a resolution in seconds.

Native MCP Server and New AI Capabilities

Natural language search across your database: Users will be able to ask questions in plain language to search the entire Odoo database—for example, finding a supplier’s latest purchase order, locating stock movements, or summarizing support tickets.

AI that understands technical documents: An AI assistant will be able to read technical PDF files and automatically generate projects with the appropriate phases and tasks based on their contents.

Built-in MCP server: Odoo 20 Enterprise will include a native Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Previously, AI assistants needed an external gateway to communicate with Odoo. Now, a dedicated module allows direct communication through a secure endpoint. It currently includes five read-only functions—context queries, model browsing, field inspection, record search, and grouped analytics. Write capabilities are already present but remain disabled unless an administrator enables them.

Accounting Becomes Simpler

  • One practical addition to Accounting is the ability to send payment batches directly to the bank from within Odoo or generate SEPA XML files for manual processing, reducing the need to switch between different systems.
  • Odoo plans to launch a public localization website where businesses can search country-specific charts of accounts, tax rules, and expense deductibility information.
  • Account reconciliation will automatically generate balancing entries for exchange rate differences and accruals.
  • Users will also be able to switch between tax-inclusive and tax-exclusive pricing on individual documents.
  • Business partners can store multiple identification numbers—including VAT, company registration numbers, and LEIs—with automatic validation.

POS and Commerce Become More Practical

Odoo 20 brings several practical improvements to Point of Sale, with a clear focus on reducing setup time and making the system more dependable. Connecting POS hardware is expected to be much more straightforward thanks to browser-based device access through Chromium, removing the need for certificate imports. Printer installation has also been simplified, helping businesses get up and running with fewer technical hurdles.

Beyond hardware, the roadmap introduces a range of usability enhancements, including automatic combo recognition, stronger kiosk capabilities, lower memory usage, a snooze option for unavailable self-order products, and support for more payment providers such as Mollie, M-Pesa, Bancontact/Wero, along with integrations for Glory, Cashdro, and Cashmatic cash management systems.

Restaurant users will also see improvements with a refreshed floor plan editor that adds new table layouts (square, rectangular, round, oval) , background images, and greater flexibility when designing restaurant spaces.

Overall, these updates are aimed at making daily operations smoother for retailers, restaurants, and businesses using self-ordering solutions.

Payroll Gets a Major Update

Payroll is receiving one of the largest updates in Odoo 20. A new dashboard gives HR teams a clear overview of outstanding tasks, such as employees without contracts, missing bank account details, outdated payslips, or incomplete identification information, with quick action buttons for each issue.

Another major change is the removal of work entries. Payroll calculations will instead rely directly on Time Off data, making payroll preparation much simpler.

The Light User Role

Odoo20 introduces a new Light User role for employees who need basic backend access without the full permissions of a regular user. Employees can be invited and onboarded easily, while their access and user status can be managed directly from the Employee form. If they later require additional privileges, they can be upgraded to regular users—making access management and licensing more efficient.

Conclusion: A Simpler, Smarter Odoo

Rather than introducing one standout feature, Odoo 20 focuses on improving the overall experience. AI, automation, and tighter integration appear throughout the platform, helping reduce repetitive work and simplify daily operations.

From Payroll and Accounting to POS, Marketing, and Services, the roadmap points toward a more connected business platform built to make work easier—not more complicated.

Odoo 20 Roadmap

The Odoo 20 roadmap was presented in April 2026 by Luc Nailis, Product Owner at Odoo. As Odoo jokingly describes it, it’s a “list of things we might do,” so some features may still change before launch. The official release is expected during Odoo Experience 2026 in Brussels, taking place from September 24–26.
